Becoming an artist has taken 60 years...
Sally Ann's creative journey has had many twists & turns over the years - in fact she didn't learn she was 'a creative' until quite late in life. Looking back it was obvious in her sense of style, bright red hair colour and home decoration. But this creativity had never really been nurtured or allowed space in childhood - although photography has always been a passion. She grew up thinking painting was barred to her because she 'couldn't draw' - or didn't have the patience to learn!
After discovering the therapy of blogging during a family tragedy in 2010 and a few years later going on to explore creative writing, poetry & pottery, she was taken to a watercolour class by a friend. Painting took off from there! After lots of different classes SA settled on the ease of acrylics and her penchant for pure abstract rather than trying to copy images or struggle with detail, leading to an online course that encouraged freedom in one's individual expression.

Bringing colour and joy to Leicester & beyond!
Since it's inception in Spring 2025, 'the LOVE of COLOUR' gallery was always intended to be much more than a shop. Abstract art comes out of the artist as a wordless expression of life and spirit and this much colour relays loads of joy and vitality. Customers say they feel better for just looking round the gallery and the artworks can be seen through the large windows by passers by, especially standing out in the dark with the lights on at night.
It is a privilege to have such a beautiful old building from which to shine light into the locality and into people's lives. Art and colour undoubtedly increase one's quality of life, but are rarely a priority in this economic climate. Maybe it would do you good to make some space for a painting and invest in your own mental health?!

If you are local to Leicester, come and try it yourself!
Saturday afternoon 'one-to-one' workshops
The painting studio on the top floor is small, so it is best to have one client at a time - though we can stretch to two at a push. ADULTS are as welcome as children - breakout into play whatever your age and gain tools for your own painting journey!
You will see a demonstration first, to give you ideas and examples of what is possible. Then a large piece of paper is all yours to apply whichever colours you like, using your favourite tools.
After 40 minutes and some drying time you can choose a mount to frame your favourite section of the piece and it will be cut out and mounted to take home - your very own 'window light', like the ones hanging up in the window on the right...
All this for £20 per person
